Sea turtles have been swimming the world's oceans for more than 100 million years, persisting in spite of natural predators, climactic events and even the mass dinosaur extinction. However, their existence is now in jeopardy from human threats that are proving to be too much for turtle populations to handle, according to Oceana, the largest international organization working solely to protect the world’s oceans.
This nine-chapter story by Eric Douglas takes place on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It follows two young girls and their friends as they learn about sea turtles when one is found caught in a fishing line.
“The Sea Turtle Rescue,” suitable for ages 6 to 9, invites readers to provide chapter illustrations and comes with a teacher’s guide linked to Common Core State Standards.
